We are a ministry of action as stated in the name. The basic purpose is to help people at their point of need so that the relationship of Christ can be extended. These are some of the ways that we reach out to people.

In the beginning there was one store that we picked up from and redistributed to people with a need. As word spread and opportunity presented itself we expanded. Now we are picking up daily from grocery stores and weekly from produce markets. This has allowed us to expand not only meeting the needs of individual families but helping those from halfway houses, women's safe houses, elderly apartment complexes, food antries, and orphanages.

Action Ministries Houston receives food donations but we accept donations of all varieties. In over twenty years of ministry, we have received donated items such as Vehicles, Medical Equipment and Supplies, and Office Furniture, Equipment and Supplies. We have also accepted run over items and surplus inventory from all types of stores and companies. The goal in accepting all of these items is to redistribute them in a timely manner to groups or individuals that can make them work for the betterment of their communities.

We do not accept unusable items. We want to be able to help people put out a top rate serviceable product. One example of what we received during the 2001 Flood in Houston were cleaning supplies from a major Nationwide Company. They directly shipped their products to our warehouses and with a great army of Volunteers, we sorted and distributed these cleaning goods to thousands of homes that were devastated by the flood.

We will not accept donations unless we have the capability of redistributing them.

Several years ago, we were asked to help package and ship an inexpensive food product to feed people in third world countries and places that were in extreme conditions. This product's label is on the right. With boiling water, this product will make six vitamin fortified meals that exceeds the recommended minimum daily nutrients for an individual. We are able to package and ship a case for $45. Each case has 36 bags which provide 6 meals per bag.

We have had several organizations across the state raise the money and package the food for shipment. This makes a great service project and raises awareness of the world we live in.

As Action Ministries Houston has grown, people around the nation have inquired about our operation and developing one for themselves. Gordon has participated in many meetings and helped groups across the nation learn how to set up food networks and distribution systems. It is a large task that takes time to build. We would like to see this type of ministry in every city of the country. Action Ministries Houston does not pay for any other ministries' set up or work. What Action Ministries Houston does is offer assistance through information. Gordon does not take a salary from the ministry. So his time and expenses are provided by the host wanting to set up this type of ministry. He loves to share his insights of 17 plus years of experience. It is always good to hear from people with the same passion for helping others.
